Local Insurance Expert, Barbara Hanson, Announces Campaign to Keep Aging Citizens from Going Broke

Facts from Felton, CA Resident Now Available to Reporters, Broadcasters, and the Public

Felton, CA, November 18 – Barbara Hanson of LTC Financial Partners LLC (with offices in Felton) wants to be a financial godsend to thousands of longer-living citizens here. "A big, unrecognized threat is lack of long-term care protection," she says. "When a family member gets injured or ill for a long period, the cost of care can be catastrophic." Hanson says most people wrongly assume that long-term care expenses will be covered by regular health insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid.

To alert people to the danger -- and what to do about it -- Hanson announced today a public information campaign. It will include a website that feeds facts to the local media and public; and presentations in area companies, civic groups, religious organizations, and homes.

Hanson's Public Information website is available at www.eranova.com/LTCFP-BarbaraHanson.

Most California residents don't realize the danger they're in and how to protect themselves, Hanson asserts. "Newspapers, radio, TV, magazines, newsletters, and blogs can help spread the word and really make a difference. We will give them the ammunition."

The danger, Hanson explains, stems from a gap in health insurance protection that is made worse by today's increasing life spans. "Regular insurance just doesn't cover the care you need for longer-lasting injuries or illnesses." Long-term care insurance, a relatively new instrument, is designed to pay for nursing home care, assisted living, and home health care, "which can drain your assets if you're not covered," she says. "People need to see how easily they can avert disaster -- just by filling the insurance gap. Why should you lose everything, including your independence, just because you're living longer, which should be a good thing?"

Earlier this year the federal government and five states launched a "Long-Term Care Consumer Awareness Campaign" to combat the ignorance. "But the funding ran out in June," says Hanson, "so I and my colleagues are taking up the gauntlet."

Hanson's organization -- which has a national footprint -- is providing its advisory and brokerage services through a growing number of alliances with major banks, NRL Federal Credit Union, the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys, and the National Association of Insurance Women. Alliances with sports franchises are in the works, "to protect at-risk players, and to drive home the fact that LTC protection is for all active, vigorous people, as well as aging Americans," she says.

For seven years, Barbara Hanson served as activity director in several private nursing homes and a county mental hospital. This experience motivated her to help people prepare for a better life as they age. She is committed to community outreach and education on the need to plan for long-term care needs. As a public education service, she makes herself available to area groups, companies, and financial professionals for briefing sessions, after-dinner talks, lectures, and media interviews. She explains how long-term care insurance (LTCi) can supply the funds and options one may need to avoid exhausting one's savings in the future. Hanson also assists estate planners, financial advisors, attorneys and accountants in addressing their clients’ LTCi concerns.

She has helped over 1000 families protect their estates from financial devastation, and was honored as a leading agent by the nation’s largest long-term care insurance carrier, General Electric Capital. She is now a Partner with LTC Financial Partners, LLC. In 2004 and 2005, she received the National LTCi Sales Achievement Award, which recognizes America's top 100 agents.
